welcome

homosexual online
I got slightly sidetracked

Welcome to my website! Here I have included links to various creations from around the web as well as some other useful links that everyone should check out. Click any of the sidebar links to get started, or see below for more fun things. Best viewed on desktop.

Things to do: personal essays (rss?), art book/downloadables/my projects page, upload pdfs properly instead of linking lol, proper footer, tribute to blackmoor manor? Also, this page is getting long and probably could do with a good refresh/re-sort, stay tuned for that.

Disclaimer: I "learned" to "code" on Neopets in 2007.....and you can tell.

essays

These are some of my favorite essays, writeups, books, and articles. Many of them are related to the internet, but not all. They are not in any particular order.

In light of the current rise of authoritarianism worldwide I implore you to read They Thought They Were Free: The Germans, 1933-45 by Milton Mayer

The tyranny of the algorithm: why every coffee shop looks the same investigates the feedback loop of "aesthetic" coffee shops and similar spaces. Linked within it is Will the Millennial Aesthetic Ever End?, also worth reading. Similarly: Social Media Is Not Self Expression; E. M. Forster's The Machine Stops, written in 1909; and Erewhon by Samuel Butler, 1906.

Your Lifestyle Has Already Been Designed; Capitalists want you to be constantly stimulated

Bahaus to Our House

Six decades of revolution with John Sinclair

Invisible Man by Lawrence Otis Graham

Orientalism by Edward Said

Settlers: The Mythology of the White Proletariat

Internet manifesto by sadgrl

Capitalist Realism is worth reading. In the same vein, Manufacturing Consent by Edward Herman and Noam Chomsky, Bullshit Jobs by David Graeber, Capitalism in the Twenty-first Century by Thomas Piketty, and of course, The Communist Manifesto.

American Dreamers by Daniel Kazin

The Ecological Impact of Browser Diversity

How bad are search results? compares Google, Bing, Marginalia, Kagi, Mwmbl, and ChatGPT.

Janelle Shane's blog, AI Weirdness, is fun. I also highly recommend her book You Look Like a Thing and I Love You, which goes into how AI actually works, in particular how its "thought processes" inform its limitations. Also, ChatGPT is a Blurry Jpeg of the Web and The Year That AI Came for Culture are excellent.

I also recommend following Slashdot, Ars Technica, and Matt Stoller's Monopoly Round-up for more news.

Cory Doctorow is consistently good. My favorite essays of his are Luxury Surveillance, The Coprophagic AI Crisis, Tiktok's enshittification, and If buying isn't owning, piracy isn't stealing.

Cory Doctorow, Nov 2024: 2028 General Strike. Read this essay!!!! And check out The Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee, No Shortcuts by Jane McAlevey, Authoritarian regime survival guide, Venture Capital Extremism, Simple Sabotage Field Manual, How Nonviolence Protects the State, Who is the real carnival barker? (Stay focused on what matters! Don't let them distract you!)

Out of everyone on earth, billionaires have the absolute most to lose. Don't ever let them forget that.
